Dr. Jinan Fiaidhi, Computer Science, BioTech PhD Program Coordinator, Lakehead University. Jinan Fiaidhi is a full professor of Computer Science and the Graduate Coordinator of the BioTech PhD program at Lakehead University. She is an adjunct research professor at the University of Western Ontario and the editor in chief of IGI Global International Journal of Extreme Automation and Connectivity in Healthcare. She is also the chair of Big Data for eHealth with the IEEE ComSoc.

Sabah Mohammed is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and supervisor of the Smart Health FabLab at Lakehead University. Dr. Paolo Sanzo, Kinesiology, Lakehead University. Paolo Sanzo is an Associate Professor in the School of Kinesiology and at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine at Lakehead University and the Director and Physiotherapist at Active Potential Rehabilitation Services. He is also an instructor and examiner for the Orthopedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and was elected as the past Member Organization Delegate for Canada. He was appointed to the executive of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists in October 2017. His research interests are in the area of rehabilitation and sports medicine. More specifically, his research integrates the clinical, biomechanical, and physiological aspects of human movement and gait analysis. It also includes the exploration of the medical and clinical uses and effects of extracorporeal shockwave therapy, the clinical application and rationale for the use of therapeutic taping, the biomechanical analysis of concussion, manual therapy and length tension testing and the relationships between muscle and myofascial tissues in various musculoskeletal disorders, and the integration of medical technologies for both assessment and treatment purposes. Paolo has published articles in several peer-reviewed journals, authored four books on length tension testing techniques in the upper and lower quadrants, and serves as a reviewer for several journal titles.

Dr. Carlos Zerpa, Kinesiology, Lakehead University. Carlos Zerpa is an Associate Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Lakehead University. He teaches and researches in the area of biomechanics. More specifically, his research focuses on the dynamic interaction of biological, mechanical and behavioural systems of the human body including cognition and learning to develop optimization measurement techniques for the assessment of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and antalgic gait patterns. His recent research in TBI, for example, has allowed him to the develop new testing protocols for walking and driving for clinical use to assess and monitor individuals suffering from a TBI in order to help them return to activities of daily living. He has also developed in combination with Engineering Faculty, new modeling techniques to assess helmet protective devices in mitigating impact forces responsible for causing concussions. He is actively involved with the community and has developed research collaborations with other academic institutions in Canada and internationally.

Dr. Amarjit Chahal is the Manager of Business Development with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute. He plays a key role in identifying and pursuing business opportunities that are in alignment with the Institute's strategic plan. This is achieved by facilitating market analysis, monitoring emerging industry trends and preparing portfolio analysis for a series of high potential opportunities including patenting, licensing and commercialization of intellectual property as well as seeking opportunities for the Clinical Trials facilities. In the past, Dr. Chahal has worked for the Dynacare Medical Laboratories (located in Thunder Bay, Ontario and Laval, Quebec) as a Forensic Specialist, Technical
Leader and Business Development Manager, with Vita-Tech Canada Inc. (now IDEXX in Markham, Ontario) as the Director of the DNA Diagnostics Division, and the National Legal Laboratories (now Laboratory Corporation of America, East Lansing, Michigan) as the Assistant Laboratory Director. He has completed two years of postdoctoral fellowship at the Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina where he conducted research on genetic disorders in humans. He obtained a doctoral degree in a Collaborative Program in Plant Genetics from the University of Guelph, Ontario. |
